FYI
Reservoir Geomechanics 202
Stanford University Online is repeating the popular graduate level geophysics
class in Reservoir Geomechanics using the massive open, online course (MOOC)
format. There is no charge for the course and a statement of accomplishment is
given to students with a 70% score on the homework assignments. If you've never
experienced a MOOC, this is a great way to try out the revolutionary new form
of higher learning and update your domain knowledge at the same time.Reservoir
Geomechanics provides a good introduction to the foundational science for DSU
including: fracture prediction, wellbore stability, fault seals, pore pressure
prediction and the geomechanics of shale gas and tight oil production. The
instructor, Dr. Mark Zoback, is a Professor of Geophysics at Stanford
University, a recognized expert in geomechanics, and a Senior Executive Advisor
to Baker Hughes. He was also on the National Academy of Engineering board that
investigated the Deepwater Horizon Accident. For a small taste of one of Dr.
Zoback's ResGeo lectures, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yL9J2r-oedE
