Our school shearer got a call to go out to someone's house to shear a
Suffolk. Turned out it hadn't been sheared in 3 years. The mound of wool
from the shearing was huge. I don't remember what it weight, but I do
remember that it evidently suffered from wool break. Either from carrying
all that wool or some kind of nutritional deficiency in trying to keep that
wool and grow more. Each break occurred at approx. 8". Some of the staple
length that I brought home was over 16". I'm told that others had even
longer. Only problem was that the staple length couldn't be maintained, as
it broke at each place where the weakness was located. But, it was still
pretty long and it kept a lot of us spinning, for a very long time. :)
