Fleece

I'm rather new to spinning. I have been given 23 fleece from Jacob and
Jacob crosses which I want to take to be processed.  These are whole
fleece-and I know I have to take off some of it because of tags etc.  How
clean do these have to be ?  I want to get them properly ready, but don't
want to waste wool either. All info greatly appreciated.
