i remembered the story of how silk came about.......here is a quote from

" The discovery of the use of silk thread to make fine
clothes is attributed to the Chinese Empress Hsi Ling-Shi in 2640BC. It is
said she dropped a silkworm cocoon into her cup of tea and when she tried
to pull it out it came out as a single thread. Harvesting silk still uses
this principle of softening the sericin adhesive in boiling water and
twisting the filaments of several cocoons together to make an extremely
strong thread for weaving into fabrics. "
