I must be feeling the need for spring. I dyed a pound + of wool with the 14oz of coriopsis flowers I had in the freezer. What a lovely knock your socks off orange. A real pumpkin orange. My youngest loves that color. I had thrown in some experiment dyed wool (tree lichens) of a nice tan and beige and got more varigated rusts, really deep colors still. But I feel the need for more red in the mix. I can over dye but feel this wool has seen enough dye baths already. I can blend in some some bright red (I might brake down and use that packet of cushings turkey red that followed me home). I could do a two color knitting using red. I am presently leaning to a weaving in twill with a red weft. I am thinking about a sweater/ jacket thing for me. The twill weave would work best cut on a diagonal or maybe using that Folkwear pattern for a manderin jacket. Might have to use darts. Or knit cuffs. Another project is weaving a shawl for my sister. I have some salmony madder dyed yarn (madder from a friend in S.D. wool from a columbia ewe) and eucalyptus dyed golden rust, and two tones of walnut brown and green from lichen over dyed with indigo. I see narrow warp stripes, maybe Fibinoshi (sp?). It calls for some pure red and a weft of blue. So I guess my family needs to steal themselves to an indigo pot in the furnace room. Maybe I should move the blue to the warp stripes and use a soft grey from Jamba's neck wool for weft. One thing I keep noticing while in my dye fits- it is easier working with corriedale fleece then my old colombia. Less felting and brighter colors. It could also be experience showing. Naw, must be the sheep. I have been enjoying myself looking at the webpages in peoples signature files. You all do some lovely stuff. The Urban Eagle had a lovely picture of Coriopsis flowers to go with my dye bath. I can see real room for improvement in my own page, sigh.
