The quotation from Laurel Thatcher Ulrich in someone's signature reminded me to mention her latest book, Homespun, which I'm about half way through. This is actually very on topic for us. In this book she looks at the ideology and practice of homespun in America, with each chapter focused around an object (a basket, a niddy-noddy (called a willie-nillie), a bed rug, 2 wheels). It's really interesting and very readable, as anyone who read A Midwive's Tale can tell you. It's great to have a really interesting scholar take textiles seriously. I think she even learned to spin.
