From what I know of all my "contacts," if you have a knitting machine and
knit your sweater upon that machine, it is STILL considered "hand
knit." No one that AI know is going to shoot you. However, "purists"
might as they feel that hand knitting is above and beyond machine knitting,
though when you think about the effort of threading (or is it yarning--pun
intended) the knitting machine, especially with those intricate patterns
you can knit on it, the effort is there as well as in hand knitting.

It is all in whom you are talking with, but the "great debate" goes on.

>I can only give you the story of my contact. I was wearing a handspun,
>machine knitted (don't shoot me!) sweater in a yarn shop where I know the
>owner. A woman came up and asked where I had gotten my yarn and did the
>owner carry it anymore. After being told that it was handspun, she wanted
>to know how much, yadda yadda. I told her that I didn't do this for a
>business, but she was very persuasive. I found out exactly what she wanted,
>sent samples, she picked out and paid 1/2 down. I finished it and sent her
>the rest. She told a friend who ordered some from me as well. When the
>woman called to order more, I explained that I was unable to spin for a
>business and gave her a couple of names of possible places to get more.

>The best place is a fine yarn shop. See if you could sell on consignment,

"The past cannot be repeated and ought not to be repeated
even if it were possible. What is important is that the
vision of greatness demonstrated in an earlier time may
help men and women of this generation to know how to
discover the secret of an equal vitality, with relevance
to their contemporary situation."
