Hi all, I have at last got back to some serious fun spinning and have been having a ball. I had some beautiful intense dyed mohair which I bought in Tasmania in lovely space dyed locks, some Blue/gold/green and some blue/purple/pink. I had only around 50 grams so decided to eke it out with a blend of a deep purple Merino and space dyed silk in green/yellow/orange/pink. The resulting lightly carded batts I spun English long draw to make a singles for crocheting.
I have made a number of roundels and will piece them together with another yarn made from the same purple wool and silk and an added space dyed silk in a deep purple/turquoise/pink. The yarns really glow and I found a really nice pattern for a background crochet to fill in between the roundels. It is based on trebles but every now and then there are circles made by crocheting down a treble from the previous row and then back up on the treble next to it. It is quite effective. The end product I hope will be a slip on vest with lacey capped sleeves. I like making these pieced together garments as they free me up and make me invent ways around problems.
