When I lived in Wyoming a guy nearby bought a bunch of buffalo from a US National Monument sale, and confined them in the usual barbed wire cattle-tight fence. It seems nobody told him that buffalo don't see wire, and don't feel it either. The whole herd started walking north, presumably to get back home to South Dakota. They did it at night and took out every fence for about 40 miles. The guy not only had to try to get them back, but repair everyone's fences. After that he put some boards up that they could see.
