When our group were invited to the local scince fair we did indigo dyeing on squares of cotton. The science fair was for schools so we got the kids to fold and tie beads or knots etc in the squares or put clothes pegs on them, them dip dye them in an indigo bath. They all enoyed the colour change as the indigo oxidises (hey! pretty scientific that!) and at the end of the day we had run out of indigo and squares both, but had a whole lot of patterned dyed squares for a quilt.
