Happy New Year to the Fibernetters in New Zealand, where it has been 2004 for closing in on three hours.
Are you there Cathy?
I was away from the computer! Away from the House! Went into the City for some of the First Night celebrations at The Edge - Aotea Square. Free stuff i.e. local musik, cultural groups and other items. Wonderful colourful costumes - including what looked like a deep gold trim on wonderful white saris. Then made our way to our the Sky City bus-stop with a side trek into Sky City itself with maybe zillions of others given a gorgeous sequined head band with green feather - lots of characters [employees] swanning around in flapper gear. Lots of people playing the pokies [no we didn't] but so much flashing noise and colour and people. Out to bus-stop and caught a different bus home that went on very roundabout trip through various suburbs but we finally arrived back at New Lynn Bus Terminal! Passed lots of house alit with lights and stuff.
Ron who has just over eight hours to wait, but I can hear fireworks popping in all directions.
Was in bed when fireworks started popping but that's OK - had a wonderful few hours in our multi-cultural city. An Indian woman sitting next to me was quite curious as to whether I was enjoying her culture performances and seemed rather amused I was! The compere was from Taiwan and she had been here 9yrs and she said was happy that all these cultures could work together to bring joy and happiness to NZers.
Tonight's meal? I thought you'd never ask. It's all cold (well, room temp) stuff.
We could have eaten from the food stalls - ethnic food from all over the world but we didn't because both of us have nutrition type problems. But the smells and the variety is amazing. The people manning the craft/food/other stalls also from a mix of cultures. I found one stall adorned in a huge assortment of cellphone "faces" or whatever you call those add-ons.........so many different ideas including what looked like slippers!
Yes folks - it's now morning 2004 - thanks for being my worldwide friends.
Cathy
hoping to get back to her dyepots later today when I have recovered from long trip out :-))
