Okay, so its not in English. Back in the early 80's my husband, while
browsing through our local bookseller in Germany (where we were living)
said - here's something about spinning and weaving - the Deutsches Museum is
a good one(like the Smithsonian, publishes books) - so we bought it.
(Paperback for 8,80 DM - like REALLY cheap).

"SPINNEN UND WEBEN" from Almut Bohnsack is the most concise and complete
work I've ever had regarding the history and development of weaving and
spinning from prehistoric to modern times.
For anyone with even a smattering of German language ability, the book is a
treasure trove of illustrations, photos, timelines and tables. (The timeline
on types of spinning equipment over the centuries is something rare and
excellent.)
It has recently been republished by a textile museum in Bramsche, Lower
Saxony - web link below:
http://www.tuchmachermuseum-bramsche.de/01-museum.html

My new copy came today - what a nice surprise - the pages are larger, so is
the print, the binding more durable - price is 17 Euros - still not a lot
for a worthwhile book. You can order from them if you speak German, or if
anyone is seriously interested, contact us and we can place an order for
several copies.

And that web site has lots of nice pictures.
