Greetings All,
I've taught a number of preteens to knit. Eylash is too hard for them
to work with. Also you need a small project they can finish in a hour! I start
them out making a garter stitch head band or even a scrunchy . I'd also
recommend using sport weight yarn a nice smooth one so it won't be
easy to split with
the needles. also short needles are much easier for beginers. Here's the
lesson plan I use.
In one lesson you will barely have time to teach knitting on and the knit
stitch. Second lesson should be on pearling and stockinette stitch.a small
rectangle finised by sewing up the sides and hand basting either velcro or a
ziupper to make a pencil or makeup case will be do able in an hour.
Lesson 3,and 4 would be on ribbing and increase.A small scarf with
pointed ends is a good project They won't be able to finish it at
the lesson ,but
by the 4th lesson shold be ready to do the decreases and learn to end off.
Hope this helps you ,
Hallie ,in south fl.
