Saturday, October 23, Bath, Maine

Early Shetland Spinning and Knitting - advanced beginner through
advanced spinning workshop, taught by Deborah Pulliam.  A hands-on,
active workshop, based on late seventeenth-century artifacts found in
the Shetland Gunnister dig as well as others from the northern islands. 
We begin with a look at objects in detail through slides, and a
discussion of the various yarns used. Participants will have the
opportunity to compare early Shetland fleece to what's being produced
today, and work on spinning a fine two-ply Shetland yarn, which can be
used to knit a reproduction of the Gunnister Man's knit purse (pattern
provided.) N.B.: this does not include Shetland lace knitting!

The Academy of Spinsters

The Academy of Spinsters. We are located in the small town of
Encampment, Wyoming. The town is located in a high (7400') mountain
valley. The school offers classes in Spinning, Dyeing, and
