I was curious to hear what people think about knitted
rugs, as it's a completely new idea to me. Have you
ever done this? Do you think knitted rugs work well?
I wonder if they would be stretchy, slippery, flimsy,
etc. I am interested in this both because maybe I
will make a rug, and maybe I will buy the book for my
library. Thanks!

I knitted a rug, which is holding up very well after about 7 years of use (maybe more)? I knitted strips, essentially in twined knitting (alternating stitches from 2 balls), using a yarn spun from dyed locks of some ruglike breed. (They were from a rainbow-dyed bag from Straw into Gold; I also used some for a vest (I was a new spinner and didn't know better) which wears well, but needs to be worn with a thick turtleneck under it.) I knitted it very tightly. I think if the fiber is right and you knit in a stable stitch tightly it works well. I also suspect that felting might work excellently for a rug, although I haven't tried it.
