I've been wanting to play with summer and winter for a long time but haven't gotten around to it. Well, most of the towels I consigned locally have sold, and I though it might be good to go ahead and do some S&W towels.

But although the threading is clear, I don't find the treadling clear. I've consulted several books and Handwoven articles. They all say you need to use combination treadling to do more than the simplest of block designs, but none explains what the basic treadling per block is, or how to decide the easiest way to combine treadles to extend the blocks.

I'm using 8/2 cotton sett at 18 epi for the ground cloth. Another thing I can't find info on is whether one threading unit at this sett is enough to constitute a block for simple designs like hearts or flowers, or whether you really need to double or triple the units for the best result.

Any help will be appreciated! :)

Thanks,

Holly
hoping no one will recommend a book, because I can't get if it I don't already have it
