The book has numerous charts on the order of along the top, Gauge of
yarn 5 6 7 8 9 10 Stitches per inch along side socks for child s m
l womans s m l mans s m l and at the intersection the number of
stitches to cast on. If you have seen Ann Budd's Handy Book of Patterns
with all the different gauge and sizes it is like that only
different(format) if you get my drift. Then after explaining how to
make socks top down or toe up there are a bunch of 4stitch patterns, 5
st patterns, 6 st patterns etc. pick a gauge, pick a size pick a
pattern that goes into the number of stitches you are using and go from
there. You have to think a bit, because it doesn't say get 2 balls of
xyz yarn and 4 size 2 needles, it says get some yarn, and needles, make
a swatch, measure gauge, decide what size socks you want to make, plug
your numbers in and make socks to suit you.

Hi Anita - Would you please tell me the weight of the yarn called for in most
of the patterns? I spin 3-ply sport weight on a spindle and the Dr. has taken
the wheel away from me again. TIA Anita in NH
