I'm a self-taught spinner. I devoured every book I could find on spinning.
Every one of the books stressed the importance of cleaning every oiled part, 
_before_ applying a coat of new oil. When your car gets low on oil, you don't 
just add more oil. You have the crankcase drained, and then put in brand new 
oil. The same thing applies to oiling a spinning wheel--always oil over a clean 
surface.

That grey/black stuff you're seeing is bits of dirt, household dust, and just 
the tiniest smattering of 'stuff' that is loosened by friction, as you're 
spinning. If you clean those parts that have gunk in them, then oil, you won't 
be seeing new gunk, after 30 minutes of spinning. It will take longer for it to 
reappear.

Please don't use the silicone lubricant on any wheel parts. It doesn't work 
well at lubricating spinning wheels.
