the threads going into the tension box are on spools on a spool rack (or cones on a cone rack).

It is good to have all the spools turning the same way. Some loop the threads under the holder below and some racks have thread carriers. My homemade rack doesnt ,and it works.

Hopefully the thread will run freely into the tension box, each in a straight line not touching the others. Set up is all in these things.

there is a great little paperback book by Robin and Russ on sectional warping. Or Leclerk has it's beginning books for download on their web page. I used the leclerk directions when starting sectional warping. They do, I think, talk about tension. If you havn't yet, read the directions a few times before starting. It is a great way to warp.

And another question:  how do you tension the threads as they go *into*
the tension box?  Seems like, from just pulling enough threads through
to tie a slip knot in the end, that there will be tangling as the
threads go into the first reed, thereby messing up the tension and
possibly leading to breaks.
