I beg to differ with comment about Karakul and rugs. While that may be the common thinking, a few years ago I purchased several hoggatt karakul fleeces is marvelous shades of red/cream, gently and loosly spun it into singles and wove some throws from them using a cotton rug warp for warp. While not merino soft, they are soft enough for the job and yet have a durable feel to them and the colors are to die for. I gave one to friends and their grandchildren all love to wrap up in the g'pa's 'blanket'. The shepherd was really great about helping me choose via internet and email pics the softest and most colorful fleeces. So back to the old addage that a good fleece is the one that does what you need it to do. Layl in SE Arizona where it has been drizzling rain and cold for most of the week.
