Hi Ann,

I've been raising purebred, registered Karakuls for 17 years and never had a problem with mothering. In fact, I often tell people that Karakuls are the perfect beginners sheep as they are pretty forgiving of shepherd screw-ups. Mine are the easiest of the four breeds that I raise. I wonder what the selection criteria was for those sheep. If someone is a bad mother here, they get one chance. The second time, they are on the truck. I've never shipped a Karakul for bad mothering. I *have* had Karakul ewes who were pregnant "granny" someone else's lamb. Basically, she will steal another's lamb in anticipation of her own arriving. However, the real mother never had a problem with taking her own lamb back.

I sell fleeces and sometimes roving. Depends on what I've got and what I've been using. ONe of these days I'm going to weave a 5 x 7 rug out of the various colors of Karakul. Just random color selection in a wedge weave. Trouble is that I keep using the yarns that I've spun for some other project and so never have enough Karakul yarns.
