We raise Finnsheep in a small flock in an area innundated with predators - - bald eagles, coyotes and black bears literally loping past our fields (two weeks ago - - female bear and two yearling cubs). Pasture lambing is not an option. Bears have killed our adult sheep in our field. In a situation like ours, there is no way to pasture lamb.

The best use of our limited grazing is Finnsheep - - great wool and multitudes of lambs. Two of our ewes had 18 lambs last year in two lambings each. We have to keep ewes and lambs in the barn - - with an outside pen for sunshine and exercise. It is only when the lambs are weaned or before lambing that the ewes can be on pasture. Different strokes for different folks.
