Thanks, everyone who took the time to look :) I thought most responses would be from IE users, who still have 70% of the market, but most came from other browsers--don't know if it's that most fiber folk are computer literate enough to leave IE, or just that most IE users didn't respond :)
At any rate, I have the problem, I think, pinned down to IE 6.x (MS was still coding to their own standards, not the web standards, when this one was developed), and I might have worked out a solution that still provides clean code. Tomorrow morning, maybe I'll have a chance to play with it. To those who commented on the links the test page led to--those links that were live were to my old site, which will be replaced by the revised site. A few of the page names (tutorial.html, for example) will remain the same, but be changed in overall content. New pages will be added. The gallery page will change entirely. Teaching pages will be gone entirely, etc. So if you encountered dead links, it's because none of the rest of the revised pages have been uploaded; and if you have criticism regarding the old pages, well they're history, so don't worry about them, wait til you can criticize the new pages :) Holly
