As to having no proof of belts, we can only relate to drawings or 
figurines, Or verbal descriptions [poetry stories ] of what people wore.
We in the Jewish Bible are very lucky to have some descriptons of clothes.
we have found various clothing items and/or cloth in some diggings.
But i agree with you that REASON would have helped people to use what they 
had. Most first clothes weren`t that wide, nore very strechy, as people 
used skins. before they had woven cloth .
Urumuchi finds are certainly a help to uinderstand a bit how people 
dressed...
In Genesis 3, 7 , the text says that sewed fig leaves and made a belt of 
leaves , in Sanuel1, 18 , 4 and in Proverbs 31, 24 ,
Which means that at the time it was written, Belts were known .
