I just checked some references and find that WORLDWIDE (as in at least 5 
countries) flax is offered only as hackled top for spinning fine yarns. Then 
there are the "dolls" "puppets" or other names for what we think of as 
stricks - being sold as plumbers "hemp" - used for making fittings 
watertight. No wonder that when we see "stricks" they are coarse.
