This is Susanne answering. Yes we live in Sweden and I am an
active and skilled weaver. There are lots of weavers around,
alas it seams that young persons don't have the time for
weaving. But retired people or even younger persons with no
responsibility for small children do weave.
Most people go to some weaving class to learn and then rent a
foldable loom. Or they go to some place where there are lot of
looms and a group of people set up a weave together and then
all of them finish their weaving before the whole piece is cut
down and divided.
We don't have a lot of idle persons that go around and teach
one weaver at the time, but there may be someone somewhere.
Table looms are almost never used. Counterbalanced looms with 4
shafts and 6 treadles are the common looms here. With them one
can weave our traditional patterns, they are sturdy enough for
rug weaving and also suitable for weaving with very fine yarns.
I believe that asking for weaving lessons in English using a
table loom limits the number of potential teachers. I need more
information about yuour daughter to be able to help. I may know
about some good person.
Where in Sweden does your daughter live? Can she speak
Swedish?
Susanne
