Story

*A rare snow leopard at home in high alpine terrain*

*King of the mountains*

This snow leopard was captured “on film” when it triggered a remote
camera-trap high on a ridge

in Hemis National Park, northern India, as part of a new Planet Earth
series soon to be presented

on television by famous naturalist Sir David Attenborough. Thanks to a
number of adaptations,

snow leopards are able to survive higher altitudes than any other big
cat. These majestic and

elusive predators are rarely seen, but thanks to remote sensing technology,
scientists are beginning

to learn more about their secretive lives.

When the first series of Planet Earth was made, it was the most expensive
documentary ever

broadcast, costing £20million and taking five years to put together. A
decade later, the new series

examines some more of the world's most incredible animals. Each episode
will feature life in a different environment, from mountains, to islands,
to jungles.
