A clarification: While the first part of my mail described slow access on network volumes, the last part (see below) is about a local (non-SSD) hard disk. So the slowdown is not limited to network file systems.
Actually, anohter customer just contacted me who noticed the same slowdown > at even greater intensity when he upgraded from 10.7 (I believe) to 10.11. > His disk is near-full, so probably has a highly fragmented directory, and > he has only 8 GB of RAM (while I have 20).
