Dear *Literacy Advocates, * Greetings of peace! Come and join the *Reading Association of the Philippines* (RAP), the National Affiliate of the International Reading Association (IRA), on its *Demofest *to be held on *January 21, 22, & 23, 2010 *at the Stadia (Jimmy L. Fernandez Center) CSI Center, Lucao District, Dagupan City, Pangasinan. It has been a RAP tradition to hold its national demonstration festival of the best practices in teaching reading outside of Metro Manila. This year is no exception. It will be a gathering of reading teachers, professors, and specialists in the mother tongue, Filipino, and English, focusing on the theme: READING COMPREHENSION ACROSS THE CURRICULUM. Speakers include National Artist for Literature *Virgilio Almario*, CNN 2009 Hero of the Year *Efren Penaflorida Jr,* 2009 Metrobank Outstanding Teacher *Dina Ocampo *, and University of Redlands Professor *Jose Lalas. *To enrich the experience of participants, demonstration lessons will be conducted by literacy educators. Attached are the program and the new Department of Education (DepEd) and Commission on Higher Education (CHEd) memoranda. Also attached is a list of places to stay in Dagupan. Because of the difficulties that we have experienced in the last three months due to natural calamities and human shortcomings, and the consequent financial strain that relief and rehabilitation efforts brought about, we in the RAP have decided to*reduce the registration fee *to help ease the burden of affected people. Even as we give thanks for the lives we have and the blessings we enjoy, we must extend a helping hand to those who need our help. We hope that you believe the same about our students’ literacy and learning needs and find this conference relevant to them.
