For the past year I have been collecting stories, folktales, songs and games from different parts of the country where I had an opportunity to do workshops and seminars on library science, teacher training and storytelling. This is for the book that I am co-writing with Ms. Dianne de Las Casas, international storyteller and author. We are completing an anthology of folklore and folktales in the Philippines. This book is entitled, Tales from the 7,000 Isles: Folktales from the Philippines and it will be published by ABC CLIO through its imprint, Libraries Unlimited in 2011. While books and print references are plenty, we're looking for folkores and tales that are not yet printed or coded or those forgotten by people and time. In this regard, may I ask you to share your folklore and folktales? We will retell them but you will be given credit and citation in our book. Specifically, we are looking for: - Folktales from the different regions in Luzon, Visayas and Mindanao. Humorous tales, scary tales and lower mythology tales, excerpts from epics, legends, fables, myths, and pourquoi tales (how things came to be), stories of enchantment, personal stories, local history and geographical stories of lands, mountains, lakes, falls, rivers in the Philippines - Songs, dances, games, arts and crafts, recipe that are truly PINOY :-) Please REPLY to this email PERSONALLY through my email address - [email protected]. Here's hoping that you would contribute to the growth and the nurturing of Philippine culture and liteature by sharing folktales and stories about our people and country. Dianne is FilAm while yours truly grew up in modern Manila. This book is our legacy to our children and to Filipino children who will read the stories about their culture and heritage. Thank you very much.
