Company Profile:  The Manila Observatory (MO) is a scientific research
institution established in 1865, by the Jesuit mission in the
Philippines.  By then, it was already engaged in pre-disaster science
doing atmospheric studies, weather and earthquake observations until
it became the official institution for weather forecasting and later,
the Philippine Weather Bureau.  At the turn of the 21st century, the
Institute finds itself addressing new challenges on the global concern
for environment and development.  With a continuing focus on
pre-disaster science that impacts directly on man?s well being, MO
undertakes research in the areas of climate change, urban air quality,
and disaster risk reduction and management.

Job Position:  LIBRARIAN

Job Description:

Responsible for the development and management of the Manila
Observatory Library and Archives Collections, i.e., identification,
acquisition, cataloguing, classification, organization, dissemination
and maintenance of the facilities and collections based on library and
archival standards.
Responsible for the acquisition of reference materials, including
scientific books and journals, relevant to the research work of the
Observatory.
Engage the Library and Archives as a depository and conduit of data
and information to facilitate accessibility and dissemination of the
research output of the Observatory to the general public.
Establish an information dissemination system, which includes library
resource management, that will provide efficient accessibility of
library contents to the researchers of the Observatory.
Responsible for updating/upgrading the Library and Archives databases
and information systems
Responsible for the management of the Archives digital collections
Conduct conservation practices to ensure long-term preservation of
archival materials
Foster linkages with other libraries and archives, within and outside
the Philippines, to promote and develop the Library and Archives

Qualifications:

Bachelor of Science in Library and Information Science with units in
Archival Management
One to two years of experience in library and archival works
Proficiency in the English language both oral and written
Proficiency in the use of computer applications (Word, Excel, Access,
PowerPoint, Adobe Photoshop, etc)
Knowledge of database program/language e.g. PHP, MySQL
Knowledge of Spanish is an advantage
