https://youtube.googleapis.com/v/4FrGxO2Fn_M > This is a video that could very well apply to the Philippines. If we buy products made by Filipino entrepreneurs, we will help "grow" the Philippine economy. Likewise, if we patronize a Philippine bookseller in the US, or read books written by Filipino or Filipino American authors, we are empowering our own people. Why patronize big box online booksellers who do not do any direct effort to put our authors in the limelight? It will take a shift in our consciousness to do this but whatever you contribute today for their sake will pay off in the future. The success of our authors and their books will bring honor to the home country and its people. We always say that Filipinos in America are invisible. Here is your chance to contribute your efforts to make them more visible. Patronize good writings by our people, the authors who bring our message to the world!
Since we are in the US, buying American makes sense. Personally, my husband and I have stopped buying anything marked "China" for the last three years, and have concentrated on buying American. I do not think our decision has made any dent in the American economy but if everyone decides to buy American, it will help. We need a change in our consciousness to help improve the economy of the country where we live or of the people that we hold dear. A little discipline in our consumer habits will go a long way in order to help each other. We should rise above being a "problem" as we sometimes are, and be a "solution" to the problems that beset us. If we do not help each other, who will? As a kid, I remember that the Philippines had a policy similar to this and it is time to bring it back ... a conscious effort will help develop that feeling of nationalism among young people as well as help decolonize them. Teach them to love what is our own because the grass is not always green at the other side of the fence. Just thinking aloud. Linda Nietes P. S. - If you agree with these thoughts, please share.
