IHS has developed into a leading international knowledge centre with 55 years of experience in applied knowledge for urban management and development. Operating on a global scale, IHS offers post graduate education, training, advisory services and applied research. The IHS library has a vacancy for an intern to assist on two information projects. 1 TRANSITis a European Union project on Social Innovation for which IHS will help to develop a web-based information hub. 2 Wikipedians in Residence The project is run under the auspices of the Workgroup Special Scientific Libraries, in which 25 Dutch libraries work together. For the TRANSIT project activities will include building up a database of references and data for inclusion in a searchable web-based information hub on social innovation and exploring the options for a suitable (open source) information architecture. For the Wikipedians in Residence project we are looking to digitalize some unique documents held by the IHS library and which will involve getting clearance from (potential) copyright holders as well as the actual conversion of slides to a suitable digital format. Some scanning of maps/reports may also be required. Requirements The ideal candidate should: * Be an (international) student at a Dutch or foreign university in an undergraduate (Bachelor) study programme that requires a work placement/internship at an international organization such as IHS; * Be studying as for an undergraduate degree in one of the following disciplines: Library Science; Information Management; Documentation, Communication; * Show a strong affinity with developing information products on the Internet; have knowledge and/or experience of digitalization projects and preferably also have an interest in developing content management systems for a web interface; * Demonstrate very strong problem-solving skills; * Be creative and pro-active and able to operate both in a team and independently; * Have excellent command of written and spoken English; * Be highly motivated. Terms and Conditions The intern position is available in Rotterdam, the Netherlands for a period of five months from May to September, he/she will be expected to be present for 40 hours per week. IHS offers to undergraduate interns compensation of 300 euros gross per month. A work permit as well as a health insurance, both valid for the total period of the internship are obligatory. Also, a third party insurance is an obligation.
