filmscanners: Nikon LS30 Problem?

My LS-30 stutters and the light on the slide surface blinks on and off
occasionally when I scan-no matter what option-whether it is Nikonscan or
Vuescan.  I also had a problem with Vuescan freezing that seems to have gone
away at the time.  Does anyone else's LS-30 work this way?  Has anyone sent
one back for repair due to something like this?  Any and all advice greatly
appreciated!
