The way I bypassed this problem (large software requirements) with a similar
project to Alan's "Villiage Album" was to install Irfanview on each disc.
It's freeware for non-commercial productions, and can either be installed to
HD or run directly from the CD with no problem. Takes up about half a meg,
and can be downloaded (or at least could be in October) from:
http://www.irfanview.com/
For "non-critical audiences," I can recommend it highly.
