I recently having similar problem but the dark scans were printing
reasonably OK - it turned out that Adobe Gamma was not loading during start
up. Try locating the gamma loader it should be here:
C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Calibration\Adobe Gamma Loader.exe
If your screen lightens up then its not loading during start up. If you need
to know how to do this send me an e-mail off list.
If this is your problem it would quite probably explain your printer
problems too.
