I meant that in reference to the original question you would wind up with at least 7 extra staves. Assigning each group and timpani its own staff would result in only 3 or 4 extra staves at most. Also, if you wind up with 3 or 4 untuned percussion instruments in one group, don't be afraid of using a 2 or 3 line staff for that. It saves space and it's easy to see who's playing what. Doug
