Regarding your trombone problem, perhaps you have reached the polyphonic
limit of your playback module/soundcard? The program may be starting
from the top-down, and by the time it reaches the trombone parts you may
be beyond the capabilities of the sound-card or module. Most midi
playback devices have two limiting capabilities, Number of Channels
(sometimes listed as Number of Voices or Patches) and Number of
Notes-Polyphonic. So it might have 16-channel, 24-note-polyphony
playback. So if you have used up 23 notes in other channels, the top
note of the trombone chords would be the 24th note and any other notes
simply wouldn't play.

And don't be fooled by the fact that you might actually have only 6
other instruments/notes playing -- if you are using layered sounds in
another instrument, the polyphony level can be reached far before you
think. If you are using a keyboard sound which is layered for greater
richness, you can actually be using up 2 or 3 or 4 notes of your
polyphonic limit for each individual note you are playing, so a 4-layer
patch playing 4 notes is using 16-note-polyphony.

As for smart-shapes, I don't think the measure-attached setting can be
changed (I can't see how to do, it isn't an option under the
Smart-Shapes Option, it isn't in Document Settings, clicking the option
to turn it off doesn't work). But I was able to start and stop it
exactly where I click, so I am not sure what your problem with it is? I
double-click-and-drag, and then after I release the button at the end of
dragging for length, the handles appear so I can edit it or move it as I
wish.

I don't see what your problem is with this, so perhaps you can be more
specific about what you are trying to do and are unable to do and we can
better help you.
