This is the exact conversation that goes on when Microsoft comes up with a new version of Windows. ;)

I ordered it a few minutes ago and will be glad to report on whatever I run into for new things, when it finally gets here. They have supposedly improved the scanning ability (I'll believe that when I see it!) but in reading their "impartial" comparison, they admit they skewed the results -- they used b/w line art for the scan that they fed to the finale scanning module but they used a gray-scale scale for the scan they fed to the competition. The b/w line art for the Finale scan resulted in only 5 "easy" edits (some missed ties and a missed 8th rest) while the gray-scale scan used for the competition resulted in many more edits being necessary, requiring much more work. It is good to know that Coda (or WheresTheMusic or whatever they call themselves these days) has such confidence in their product that they need to run an obviously flawed and skewed comparison in order to make themselves look better than the competition. At any rate, what else I saw (most of my work involves old music or originals where the scanning capability is not of interest to me so I don't care how much they lie about it) and what I have seen in previous upgrades makes me believe it is probably worth it. But the cynic in me can see that they need an infusion of capital such an upgrade will bring in order to make their 2nd quarter look better than it otherwise would be. Their price break for early-bird upgrading ends on July 7th, 2002. Again the cynic in me says they probably know of an upgrade coming from Sibelius in another two months and wanted to get their product out the door sooner to head off possible defections. That tells me that a Fin2003A patch will most likely be needed very soon. I will not uninstall Finale2002 until I am certain 2003 is stable and working well.
