I am running XP (for the last 6 months) on two machines at home and 6
machines in my classroom at the school where I teach. We use Finale,
Cakewalk Sonar and several educational music packages. We have had no
problems with any of the MIDI intensive software or the MIDI projects my
students or I generate on our own, including projects using Livesynth Pro
and various DXI Soft synths. We have found it to be more stable than 98, ME
or 2000 in our experience. I guess it really depends on each user's
situation.
