I can't remember if 8.6 had file indexing or not, but perhaps turning of
"Find by Content" or whatever file indexing was called in 8.6 might turn the
trick.

Hope this helps,

Allen

Subject: [Finale] OT System help needed

Hi,
sorry for the totally off-topic post, but there are so many different minds
here....

I'm on a Mac, System 9.1 and recently my system is experiencing these
annoying effects: every 10 minutes (precisely) this is going on: for about 3
seconds my computer is going through some kind of activity that won't allow
anything else happening (like me working) - then it is freeing up for about
2 seconds and then another 3 seconds of lockdown is happening.

I can see by the lights on my router that there is some kind of network
activity - also the lights on my AirPort Base station are flickering...

First I thought it is Outlook checking my e-mail, which also is scheduled
for every 10 seconds (I have DSL) - but not so - when this happens my
Outlook is idle. Also my wife's laptop (which has a wireless card) is not
even turned on when this happens...

Any clues where to start looking? Any other information you experts need?
Maybe there is some shareware I can use to see where the activity comes
from?

My Internet setup is like this:
The router ports are used by my beige desktop G3, by the AirPort base
station and the DSL modem and a printer.

Thanks a bunch - since this is getting to be very annoying...
