Prick-song is an obsolete English term, prevalent in the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries, referring to music that has been 'pricked' (marked) on paper i.e. written down. It is not used for monophonic music, such as plainsong, but is used to distinguish it from improvised polyphony, such as faburden.
