You should set the base key level higher.

Yes, you can edit all the dynamic markings and change what dynamic level
they play back at.

I find that a base key level of 100 works well, which should represent
MF and then adjust all the dynamic levels I use in a piece so the
loudest (if louder than MF) is set to 127 and the softest is set to 70.
This gives a broad enough dynamic range to represent what the music
shows but remains high enough to actually be listenable.

Another solution is to turn up the volume on your amplifier and in the
speaker icon in the systray. I keep my midi volume turned all the way up.

As for the endless loop in the repeat tool, you are supposed to set it
to jump to a specific location, so the loop will actually play back
sounds.

Sometimes setting it to jump backwards is useful if you want to hear a
selection over and over and over again, either because something is
bugging you about it and you can't quite figure out what, or you are
trying to come up with some countermelody or something and want to
listen over and over for inspiration.

You can also have it jump FORWARD, so you can have it jump over a group
of measures which might be played from some D.S. or D.C. later in the piece.
