I believe you're reading the manual wrong. My understanding is that changes
to the Slur Contour settings will affect all existing slurs which have not
been manually altered. Any slur which has not been manually altered will
not be changed.

I have been told that if I context-select a slur and set it to "engraver
slurs-off" that will have the same effect as manually altering a slur, but
that has not been my experience (in MacFin 2002). An unaltered slur with
engraver turned off will still be affected by Slur Contour changes, while
an altered slur with engraver turned on will not.

If there's a difference between Fin2002 and previous versions, I'd guess
this has something to do with the introduction of engraver slurs.

What are you reading in the manual? I'm not finding anything like that.

If you want to make a change to Slur Contour without affecting existing
slurs, you could make a manual adjustment to each of them. I realize this
is too tedious to be practical, but if there's an easier way, I don't know.
If it were true that changes all slurs to "engraver slurs-off" in the
context menu changed their behavior, that would be very useful, but for me
that does not work.

I've developed practical habits that meet my needs for drawing slurs, but
I've never worked out a comprehensive understanding of slur behavior with
regard to all the different types and settings. If anyone can offer such an
explanation, I'd love to see it. (And yes, it goes without saying that you
won't find this in the manual....)
