Not only that, this is a classic--indeed textbook--example of a scam that's 
been around for at least 50 years. Any list of common mail fraud schemes will 
include it amongst the most prominent and best-known. What makes this 
particular example humorous (in addition to annoying) is the illiteracy 
quotient, which is unusually high for someone who fancies themselves a con
