Title: [Finale] Re: Best way to input this music?
In fact it's very easy to input quarter note triplets using Simple Entry. On the Simple palette, select the quarter note and the tuplet tools. The improvements in Simple Entry (as of Fin2002) make it possible to select both at once. Once the quarter note and simple tuplet tools are selected, you can enter the quarter note triplets directly. If you wish to enter a rest instead of a note, just press 'R' before clicking in the score. Press it again to get back to entering notes.

A nice thing about this entry method is that as soon as you enter a note on beat one, Finale creates a triplet with the note plus two rests. You can replace the rests with notes by clicking on them, but if you need rests you just leave them that way. So for instance, if in a measure with two quarter note triplets the rhythm is:
- Quarter, rest, quarter; quarter, rest, quarter -
you can input it with only four mouse clicks.

Best wishes,

You're right, the Speedy Entry method is much better. I was trying originally to use the Simple Entry method, but that has a LOT of snags in it.

They claim that they improved it, but it's (IMHO) just as awkward as the original method. What they need is a way to input recurrent patterns of rhythms, since those are found very often in music. Then it's a simple matter to fix the pitches that do not repeat.

Anyway, thanks to those who responded.
