Dear all - I've been off-list for quite some time, while I try to adjust to my new job, but I've run up against a problem that I'm hoping all the expertise on this list can help me with.
We have a music lab that uses 10 new E-Macs, running Sibelius (not my choice, but there it is), MOTU Freestyle (on the advice of a list member - thanks!), and Music Practica (or is it Practica Musica?), with input from Yamaha PSR-520 keyboards (I think - I may have the model number wrong), running through Midisport USB/MIDI interfaces boxes. For a long time, we couldn't get the programs to accept any input from the keyboards. After many hours on tech support lines, we finally found out that our problem is that the Midisports want to use OMS, while everything else wants to use FreeMIDI. By turning off the extensions for FreeMIDI, we have been able to get nine out of the ten keyboards and computers to talk to each other in Sibelius, but Freestyle REALLY wants to use FreeMIDI, and, even though the Freestyle manual says that there is a way to run them both (with FreeMIDI in the background), that results in no input from the keyboards. Therefore, we can use either the the sequencing program, or Sibelius - and we haven't been able to get Musica Practica to work correctly with either option. Any suggestions - or, even better, is there someone fairly close to Milwaukee who would be willing to trek up here and work on this (for a reasonable fee?). Our students are getting very frustrated, and so are we! I've pretty much exhausted all the local options (the music stores that sold us the software and hardware have been some, but not much, help, and all the "Mac-experts" in town are scratching their heads, but not coming up with many answers). Please respond directly to either of the e-mail addresses given below.
