I was interested in David Bailey's Speedy entry method, which I have
never used:

>For typing in notes with the keyboard, I find that keeping my right hand
>on the cursor keys to move the cursor to the proper line/space and
>keeping my left hand on the top-row number keys to define the rhythmic
>value is extremely fast.

For a long time after we got Finale I didn't have access to a MIDI
keyboard, and I'm a fluent user of a QWERTY keyboard, so I got very
quick at using the alpha keys with the left hand and the number pad with
the right. However, if there are a few notes that go higher than B above
the treble staff or lower than the C below the bass one I use the arrow
keys with the left hand and still use the number pad with the right. I
shall try David's method in that situation. Nowadays I quite often use a
combination of MIDI kbd for pitch and number pad for rhythm.
