*songs*, to *actors*. <<Uh, you guys all have to keep in mind that Crystal is trying to teach
I just came from this class wherein I taught the first lesson on notes and their values in 4/4 and 2/2. We have been singing "Lounging At The Waldorf" during the second half of each class, learning it by rote and then applying the lessons to it. First it was following repeat signs and not just finding the next set of lyrics. Today it was cutting off at the right time, and although they understand the principle and can actually answer the question "How long as you supposed to hold this note", they just mindlessly revert to singing what is comfortable for them. Sigh. This is the first year I have used folk songs as examples, and they are loving it. In today's lesson, though, I just gave single-pitch exercises which combined notes and rests in varying ways, and they were bored. I must re-do this lesson next year with folks songs. Sigh, again.
But Everything's Alright will be a good song to choose for the second half of the class. Pleasant to sing, not hard, *and* illustrates 5/4.
Jarreau sang Take Five, but only with doo-be-doos and such other scat.
