Crystal: Darcy's suggestion of "Everything's All Right" strikes me as
perfect. It's Broadway material, so your actors can relate to it as part
of real life. It has a regular 3+2 meter so they can easiley get into the
swing of it (5/4 jazz waltz) and absorb the dual meter concept that's
needed for meters in 5 and 7, and you don't need to burden them with the
knowledge that a song could also be in 2+3 or, as in the Tchaikovsky
symphony, alternate between 3+2 and 2+3.

Go for it!

John

(P.S. When Peter Nero was recording his very imaginative variations on
classical tunes in the 1960s, one of the best was the Tchaikovsky theme
which morphed into Rodgers & Hart's "Dancing on the Ceiling." Which sounds
perfectly natural in 5/4 time!)
